  • About

The National Spinal Injuries Centre was founded on 1st February 1944 by Sir Ludwig Guttmann.

This year we are celebrating our 80th year and we are aiming to raise £80,000 to help support the amazing work we do.

What we do:

The NSIC is the largest unit in the UK. We provide specialist holistic care and rehabilitation for Adults, Children and Young People; from early rehabilitation continuing the lifelong care of all our patients, helping them reach their full potential.

This is achieved by improving their level of independence from both a physical level as well as from a social and psychological level with the help of a highly skilled team.

We aim to deliver only the best treatments and care for our patients with spinal cord injury. We provide innovative surgeries to improve hand and arm function, treatments to help with managing breathing, bladder, pressure sores, and bowel functioning as well as different approaches to patient education and psychological wellbeing.

How your support can help:

We are excited about our future plans for our centre such as research into new rehabilitation approaches, technologies and treatments, as well as improving the environment of the centre.  All of which will help support and enhance the rehabilitation of our adults, children and young people.

Many of our previous landmark innovations and rehabilitation treatments were funded with Charitable Support, so your donations really do help us to continue the amazing work the NSIC does and make a difference to our patients lives. For example, our Upper Limb Studio was inspired by the work of the Christopher Reeve Foundation and has transformed many lives.

Thank you!

Your support through donations and fundraising makes a huge difference to our patients, families and the staff for care for them. Thank you!
